Packing My Hospital Bag for Baby
To prep for baby this week, I packed my hospital bag with must-have labor and delivery items and newborn essentials for those first few days after baby arrives. It’s generally recommended to have your bags packed for delivery by 37 weeks of pregnancy. I’m definitely still working through the list and there’s a few things that won’t be packed until the last minute such as my pillow and heating pad, but I’d say I’m about 75% of the way there. I have all of my clothes, postpartum and breastfeeding essentials, my favorite nursing bras, and the baby’s clothes (options for a boy and a girl) all packed.
Since we are doing quite a bit of traveling for the holidays over the next two weeks, I also went ahead and packed a small makeup bag and a toiletry bag with an extra hairbrush, toothbrush, deodorant, travel sized shampoo, soap, etc. This way I have the bags on me as I’m traveling and they are easy to grab and go when it comes time to head to the hospital.
One thing I have to plan for this time that I didn’t with my first is packing a bag for our oldest daughter, Ada. She will be staying with my family that lives close by while we are at the hospital for a couple of days.
Preparing a Postpartum Care Station with Recovery Essentials
I also prepped my postpartum care station this past week, which is essentially a designated place to store and easily access recovery essentials post-birth. The Upside Down Peri Bottle from Friday Mom is one of the items I included, and I’m packing it in my hospital bag. It’s is an absolute must in my opinion! The hospital provides a peri bottle that you can take home with you but it’s right-side up, which makes it difficult to use especially right after giving birth. The Friday Mom version is so much easier to use!
Next week I plan to order my breast pump. My health insurance requires me to be 36 weeks along, which is a little frustrating. My insurer with Ada only required me to be 28 weeks. Just in case you didn’t know, the ACA requires health insurance companies to provide a breast pump and supplies to expecting and breastfeeding moms so be sure to check with your health insurance on your coverage. I have a full guide to help you in my comprehensive baby prep course.
Baby’s 3D utltrasound is scheduled for 36 weeks and I could not be more excited to get a sneak peak of its little face! See you next week with the 36 week baby prep update!
