The Keekaroo Changed My [Laundry] Life: Keekaroo Peanut Changer Review

The Keekaroo Peanut Changer changed my laundry life (dramatic effects). THIS IS NOT SPONSORED.

The Keekaroo is a baby product to truly get excited about and here’s why. It’s made of a durable yet soft solid surface that is easy to clean. A standard changing pad requires you to use and change out covers. The Keekaroo can be wiped down with a baby wipe or soap and warm water if things get really messy. This means no extra laundry, Mama! Hallelujah!

Color Options

The Keekaroo diaper changing pad currently comes in two colors on their website, grey and vanilla. We have it in the color “vanilla”, which is a beige. You can see it here in the nursery. I think it’s beautiful for the purpose it serves!

Benefits of the Keekaroo

The Keekaroo is one of the Top items I’d put on my baby registry again because I love it that much. Its standout features include:

  • Easy to clean with a solid surface

  • Water resistant and safe for baby as liquids can’t absorb into the surface, limiting mold and bacteria growth

  • Soft and comfortable for baby

  • Made of a durable puncture resistant material

  • Slip resistant so the pad stays in place while changing your baby (this is especially great as your baby gets older and is moving and grooving while you’re trying to change them)

I did a lot of research on baby products for my registry including changing pads, prior to making a decision about what I wanted. If you are also deep into research mode creating a baby registry, check out my Ultimate Baby Registry Checklist. This is not the generic baby registry list you usually see. I have outlined all the items you will need as a new mom from diapering to feeding to postpartum care. Trust me, this is the only list you will need!

Common Complaints

After reading loads of reviews on Amazon, I’ve summarized the primary complaints about the Keekaroo below so you don’t have to spend hours digging through the pros and cons.

  • Too expensive

  • Stains

  • Has a heavy chemical smell, feels oily, and ruins furniture underneath it

  • Material is uncomfortable for baby - too hard or too cold

I understand the Keekaroo is a pricier option versus a standard changing pad. However, when you consider the price of a standard changing pad plus purchasing a few covers you’re getting close to the price of the Keekaroo. Not to mention the cost of your time spent scrubbing out stains and washing changing pad covers. The Keekaroo is totally worth the price, in my opinion! I do want to be sensitive to the fact this product may not fit within everyone’s budget, and if that is your situation, I promise you will be just fine with a standard changing pad. If you can find a little wiggle room in your budget, I highly recommend this be one of the products you spend the money on. Even my husband, who is known for being rather “tight” with money, agrees this is one of his favorite baby products.

There were also a lot of negative reviews complaining about the Keekaroo staining, but ours still looks pretty good after a year and a half. I attached a recent photo of the changing pad here so you can see that there is some slight discoloration. I truthfully don’t notice it, and I also expect a little bit of that for something I’m using daily to change diapers. It’s in good enough condition that I still plan to use the same one for baby #2.

I’ve never had issues with the Keekaroo having a smell, feeling oily, or ruining our furniture. I do agree that it can get cold. I had a baby in January, and will again, so I bought changing pad liners (not covers) to lay down under the baby during the winter months. For poo diaper changes I would pull the liner up or fold it in half so that it was only under the baby’s upper half and wouldn’t get dirty. I changed the liner out every few days. I know I know, I said no laundry with this thing. The liners are completely optional and you may not need them if you have a baby outside of the winter season. Either way, it only lasted a short time and I was thrilled about easy clean up and significantly less laundry.

    Size

The Keekaroo fits perfectly on a standard sized dresser. In case you want to measure and make sure it will fit on your dresser, here are the dimensions of the Keekaroo: 32” x 17” x 4”. We used the Ikea Hemnes dresser for our first and it worked great. I plan to get a smaller changing dresser for baby #2 because we are also using the nursery as my office and will have less real estate to work with, but I will move the Keekaroo into that room when the baby comes.

    Conclusion

Overall, I believe the Keekaroo peanut diaper changer is a fantastic investment and continue to recommend the Keekaroo to my own family and friends. I hope this product review was helpful. If you have the Keekaroo or another changing pad that you love, let me know. I’d love to hear about your experience and share it with other Moms!
